WhatAbout.travel, a UNWTO initiative to foster sustainable tourism development

If we reflect on our experience in recent years facing the challenges brought on by large-scale natural disasters and man-made crises, the vulnerability of the tourism sector becomes clear. Tourism is one of the most sensitive economic activities and usually among the first to be affected in an emergency.

At the same time, remarkable innovation has been taking place in the area of information and communication technology. Many new technologies have been deployed successfully in crisis preparedness and emergency response.

To face today’s challenges whether they come from natural disasters, health threats, socio-political turmoil or other global situations of concern, UNWTO has harnessed the opportunities afforded by modern ICT, developing its crisis management platform, WhatAbout.travel
